August Keyholder Concert
“Sweetheart” 10-Year Anniversary
Howdy folks,
Well, dang. We're not surprised. I basically killed myself getting the "Alone for a While" launch ready for August 6th, running on very *very* little sleep and trying to keep up with all the normal things and my immune system totally gave out.
By the 10th I was officially sick, so I've been moving extra slow. Most standard "Alone for a While" orders and pre-orders have been shipped out, and I still have the "mega" pre-orders (and other orders) that needed custom/bespoke items to do - those are currently in progress.
Unfortunately Songbooks got the biggest delay, but I'm hoping I'll have them by next week. The launch overall was successful, and more than anything I learned A LOT (but mostly of the same lesson that I seemingly keep needing to stab painfully into my brain over and over again... that everything that needs doing takes at least 60% longer than I expect, and costs at least twice as much).
This experience definitely gave me some perspective for the next *real* big project: a self-released, full studio album. I'd love to tackle that next year, which means I need to start preparing and planning for it now. I think it's safe to say that even if everything goes exactly according to plan (it won't), that we wouldn't have it in-hand until 2023. But it's a cool, fun, and huge project to look forward to.
For now, it's time to reflect, however. This month, my sophomore album "Were My Sweetheart to Go..." turns 10- which in some ways is unbelievable, but in others it feels older (because it actually is... we were done recording it in late 2009 despite it not releasing until August 2011).
There are a ton of reasons I don't love my first two albums, though of course they sound nice, they resonated with a lot of people, and they helped kickstart my little career, so I am grateful they exist. That being said, I don't play the songs from this album frequently, so I thought it would be nice to mark this milestone by playing the whole album solo, top-to-bottom for this month's exclusive evening concert.
We'll continue with our current schedule for now with the Patron concert taking place on the last Monday of this month, which is August 30. (Though be prepared that I am still trying to nail down a more regular live-streaming schedule moving forward for at least Quarter 4 2021, so this is subject to change after this month.) Also, if all goes according to plan, I have something big coming in September...
In my fantasies for the 10-year WMSTG anniversary, I had envisioned doing another full-band livestream where we could attempt to recreate the album arrangements- but since illness took me out for a lot of would-have-been-leadtime, and my wanting to actually execute this well with the right people, not to mention my wariness to have folks over to the house right now with growing Texas cases of COVID... I am opting to do this one alone.
I am working on some cool arrangements of the tunes and am reviewing some that didn't make it on the album originally.
Looking forward to seeing you there...
9PM EST, August 30.
