Another kinda dark/emo/folk song… the prompt “the wine-dark sea” reminded me of middle-of-the-night Laguna Beach teenage ramblings with my first soul-mate, Mary. We both had kinda tough childhoods and once we linked up we were pretty inseparable… you know, until life happened.
We lost touch for a few years (which was devastating to me), but we have since reconnected. We don’t manage to talk super often, and our journeys have run parallel in a lot of uncanny ways, but have also completely diverged in unexpected ones. Whenever we do get together though, it’s so obvious why we clicked so easily and had such a magical connection - it’s as though not a single beat was skipped, and we’re right back in rhythm, attuned to one another.
Since she has always reminded me of a Siren and we used to spend so much evening time at the ocean, I liked the idea of a lilting, folksy sea-shanty type of song.
A raising of a glass to restless, raving years seeking something…
