Hello May!

Concert: 05/17/22

Hi, friends,

Here we go, a new month (again!) - how did that happen?

I know things were a little quiet around here and I am feeling shameful about that. Normal in-real-life stuff came back with a vengeance and I’ve been spinning again trying to regain my balance.

Because I FAILED to get you a new song by the deadline last month - I did something to make up for it:

I finally FINALLY put together a bare-bones “archive” section which I have been wanting to include in The Vault all along (in fact, this “database” was the original concept for The Vault 5 years ago). There’s not much in there yet, but over time I will be adding early recordings from all my projects, or at least whatever I can find from before we started at Patreon in 2016… which might be… a lot.

I’m hoping I can maintain some composure and not get overwhelmed again, but something big is coming down the pike for me in a few weeks… while it hasn’t been officially announced yet, I’ve been cast as Mother Abbess (“Climb Ev’ry Mountain”) in “The Sound of Music” at our local Zach Theatre for its summer production. Rehearsals start in just a couple weeks, really, and while the performance aspect is not scary to me, I’ve never really done a professional show and there are a lot of unknowns for me. (Especially since I’m a little extra gun-shy post-pandemic about having to interact with other humans socially.)

It was crucial that I finally tell you this because it’s going to really mess with my beautifully-arranged/proposed year-long schedule for our livestreams. My availability during the rehearsal period will be relatively unpredictable - and I’m not 100% sure how much time or energy they will require (I just know I need to be available for long blocks from now until opening night).

Once the performances start I’ll start to have more freedom and autonomy over my schedule, and we can mostly go back to normal.

For now, I have moved some of our monthly events around a little bit and the current schedule is available on the master calendar. I’m hoping that I’ll actually be free for more time than I think, and if that’s the case, I’ll probably be doing some more impromptu streaming on Twitch and try to put in some more “normal” (non-Disney-night-time) in on the lexlandmusic channel. But it will be hard to tell what that will look like until I get into the swing of things.

That being said, we’ll be moving our May key holder concert forward a week, to May 17. Incidentally that is the ONE BIG DARK ROOM milestone date of when “From Hell, With Love” was released and not too far from the release of “Joshua,” so I think we’ll go ahead and do some kind of special OBDR event on that night.

It’s perfect timing, too, since we have our May OBDR monthly public event tonight, but we won’t be able to do another one until JUNE 28 because the Sound of Music schedule will make all other Tuesdays in June impossible. Similarly, our next Keyholder concert (for June) will actually take place on a Monday instead of the typical Tuesday.

I really wanted to try to keep things consistent and symmetrical for you to make it easy to remember, but alas, life is not consistent or symmetrical. 🤣

Thanks for your patience as I try to find my footing in this already-very-strange year. You are my anchor and I am forever indebted.

APRIL MONTH RECAP:

I was a little too quiet here at The Vault in April. April REALLY kicked my ass and I just couldn’t get a new song together in time.

During the moorhaunter-themed Keyholder Concert, I was able to showcase a few moorhaunter tunes that either hadn’t gotten any production treatment yet, or hadn’t been touched in a decade. I added a few of those into the “Archive” to get us started.

Thank you so much for your support here at The Vault this month and for your direct assistance in the creation of my art. It is appreciated more than I could ever express, but I hope the fun things we’ll do and create together this month will help convey my gratitude.

❤️ Lex
